My Quilting Professional Associations The National Quilting Association, Inc., a nonprofit organization run by quilters for quilters, was founded in 1970 by seven women in the Washington, D.C., area. The organization was established to create, stimulate, maintain, and record an interest in all matters pertaining to the making, collecting, and preserving of quilts, and to establish and promote educational and philanthropic endeavors through quilts. The NQA is the only national organization with a certification program for quilt judges. The NQA also offers a Certified Teacher program. The American Quilter's Society is dedicated to TODAY's quilter. The organization's objective is to provide a forum for quilters of all skill levels to expand their horizons in quilt making, design, self-expression, and quilt collecting. They produce a popular line of books, magazines, products, quilt shows and contests, workshops and other activities in the world of quilting. They strive to inspire, instruct and nurture the art and skill of quiltmaking. AQS has a Quilt appraisal certification program. International Machine Quilters Association The International Machine Quilters Association (IMQA) is an organization of longarm and shortarm machine quilters worldwide. The goal of the IMQA is to further the professional development of machine quilters and the profession of machine quilting as well as the development of machine quilters in the private sector.
